in addition to the ETI-CGC seminar.

Title

Finance for Nature Action

Overview

Acting on nature is vital to safeguard the health of communitiesand the wealth of our economies. Nature is also critical for delivering climate and sustainable development goals. Yet, the current economic system fails to adequately account for and value nature. To urgently address this challenge and move on to nature positive economy, we need transformation in policy signals, voluntary standards, and financial instruments to mobilizing full range of public and private capital.

To address these issues, a group of experts, Naoko Ishii, Razan Al-Mubarak, Vera Songwe, Frannie Léautier, Mari Pangestu, and Izabella Teixeira, will release a report entitled ‘Financing Nature’ at COP28. During this session, one of the co-authors will present the essential messages of the report and invite stakeholders for the discussion.

Title

Global Commons Stewardship Index-Tackling Environmental Spillovers

Overview

The Global Commons,  stable and resilient earth system, are increasingly at risk, and actions are needed now. Global Commons Stewardship Index (GCSI), jointly developed by the Center for Global Commons (CGC) at The University of Tokyo, Yale University and SDSN, provides information on environmental stress incurred by 150 counties and emphasizes how unsustainable production systems – but also unsustainable consumption in high-income countries – drive negative impacts on the Global Commons.
Taking advantage of the latest advances in trade data, environmental research, and industrial ecology, the GCSI provides detailed analyses of impacts embodied in international trade flows. The G20 presidencies of Brazil (2024) and South Africa (2025) can provide momentum for concerted global actions and further efforts to reduce negative impacts on the Global Commons.
At this session, Yale University and SDSN will present the key messages from the report, followed by discussion by experts on policy implications of the research.
